Chillin N Grillin BBQ Festival

April

Chillin n Grillin BBQ Festival started in 2009 as a small fundraiser for the chamber with 14 cooking teams competing.  The next year it became a sanctioned contest with Kansas City BBQ Society (KCBS) and has grown every year.  2017 was a pivotal year in many ways.  River City Park was under construction so it was moved to the Sand Springs Pogue Airport next to Platinum Air.  The contest drew overall 44 teams for a various BBQ contests, 23 Arts and Craft Vendors, food trucks, the Dylan Whitney Band and Jennifer Marriott Band.  Countless members of the community came to enjoy the event.  There   was an upset in the People’s Choice contest winners; the Sand Springs Parks department team known as SPARKS upset the 5 year in a row winner Church that Matters.  The local   competitions make the event all the more fun for everyone.   Keep your eye on the Chamber website and Facebook for new additions to the event for 2018.

Golf Tournament

May

Chamber puts on its Annual Golf Tournament at the Canyon at BlackJack Ridge Golf Course right here in Sand Springs.  The Golf Course has been ranked in the top 10 of golf coursed in Oklahoma.  Here is a comment made about the course:

“Canyons is an excellent and affordable golf course located just 15 minutes from downtown Tulsa.  The signature hole of the course is the par 3 #12.  It gives a picturesque view of the downtown Tulsa skyline.   There is a spacious pro shot with all your golfing needs and a large room for tournament and large group gatherings.  I highly recommend this hidden gem of Tulsa!  Colin M. Come and join the fun and socializing with your chamber members.

Taste of Sand Springs

June

Previously the Sand Springs Chamber and Jr. Achievement would team up and put on a Restaurant Crawl.  The Chamber would charter a van and the guests would travel from one restaurant to another and sample some tasty goodies.  When Kristen Valentin became President of the Chamber in 2016 she simply turned the event on it head.  The restaurants were all brought to one location and the community would purchase a ticket and get to taste all of the restaurants in the same place.  The event was a huge hit! The community enjoyed being able to sample more restaurants that they may not have ever tried.  Proceeds from the event are split between the Chamber and Jr. Achievement for future events and projects.

Festival of Lights Christmas Parade

December

Sand Springs has had a Christmas Parade for a far back as the 50’s.  There are several pictures of floats in the day time parade from back in that time.  It became a night time parade 35 years ago.  Luther “Red” Graham, president of Cust O Fab, was the one that started the night time parade. We usually have about 100 entries.  That’s counting each Shriner entry and each car as an entry.  The Chamber has always handled the entries and the city helped with the coordination for a long time.  The Chamber now handles the entire event and provides the only Santa float.  The candy for Santa to hand out was donated by area businesses.  Debbie Nobles with PSO partners with the Chamber for the coordination of the parade 16 years ago and has done a marvelous job ever since.
